Grant Writer (Volunteer)

This is a volunteer position with a volunteer-run nonprofit animal sanctuary. No wages, salary, or monetary compensation are provided. Volunteers contribute their time and skills in support of the sanctuary's mission and may gain valuable experience, professional development opportunities, and the satisfaction of making a meaningful impact to the mission. Location: Remote Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per week Position Summary The Grant Writer plays a key role in supporting the fundraising efforts of Magical Creatures Sanctuary by researching, identifying, and pursuing grant opportunities that align with the organization's mission and strategic goals. This volunteer position is responsible for developing compelling grant proposals, managing application submissions, and assisting with grant reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and evaluate grant opportunities that align with Magical Creatures Sanctuary’s mission, programs, and funding priorities.
• Manage the grant process from prospect identification through proposal submission and post-award reporting.
• Write persuasive and well-organized grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials.
• Prepare and submit grant applications, ensuring all requirements are met accurately and on time.
• Track application deadlines, reporting requirements, award information, and proposal status using internal tracking systems.
• Maintain professional relationships with foundations, grantmakers, and funding partners through timely communication and follow-up.
• Collaborate with leadership and team members to gather information needed for grant applications and reports.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Previous grant writing, fundraising, or donor management experience preferred (1–2 years).
