Remote Legal Transcription & Translation – Part-Time

Job Summary Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a detail-oriented and linguistically adept individual for the role of Remote Legal Transcription & Translation Specialist. This part-time position is ideal for candidates with a background in legal documentation, transcription, or translation. You will be responsible for accurately transcribing and translating legal documents from audio files or written materials, ensuring compliance with legal standards and confidentiality. This is a remote opportunity, perfect for those who are looking for flexibility while working on meaningful legal projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • * Transcribe legal audio files (hearings, depositions, interviews) into written format with high accuracy.
  • * Translate legal documents between languages (e.g., English to regional or international languages and vice versa), maintaining legal terminology and tone.
  • * Review and proofread translated documents to ensure clarity, grammatical accuracy, and legal relevance.
  • * Ensure all transcribed and translated documents adhere to confidentiality and legal compliance standards.
  • * Coordinate with legal teams and translation editors to confirm understanding of context and ensure accuracy.
  • * Organize and maintain an archive of completed work and version-controlled documents.
  • * Meet deadlines consistently while maintaining a high level of quality and professionalism.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications
  • * Proficiency in English and at least one additional language used in legal contexts (e.g., Hindi, Spanish, German, Tamil, etc.).
  • * Strong command of legal terminology, concepts, and formatting standards.
  • * Excellent listening skills and typing speed for transcription tasks.
  • * Ability to work with transcription and translation software tools (such as Express Scribe, Trados, or SDL).
  • * Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • * Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • * Excellent written communication skills.
  • Experience
  • * Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in legal transcription or legal translation is preferred.
  • * Freshers with relevant educational background and strong language skills may also apply.
  • * Prior remote work experience is a plus.
  • Working Hours
  • * Part-time 15 to 25 hours per week
  • * Flexible scheduling work during hours that suit your productivity, as long as deadlines are met.
  • * Occasional urgent assignments may require quicker turnaround.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • * Familiarity with common legal document types (contracts, affidavits, court proceedings, etc.)
  • * Understanding of confidentiality laws and best practices in handling sensitive information
  • * Ability to research unfamiliar legal terms and adapt to varying client styles
  • * Consistency in maintaining high standards of accuracy and completeness
  • * Strong ethical judgment and commitment to professional integrity
