[Remote] TECH500: Lead Software Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network dedicated to improving access to STEM education for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey. They are seeking a volunteer Software Development Lead to manage small tech projects, support technical volunteers, and ensure smooth operations of their tools and systems.
Responsibilities
- Guide and support a small team of junior engineers working on internal tools and scripts
- Make sure teams are making progress on their assigned tasks
- Step in as backup for other Tech Team leads when needed
- Help organize and track technical tasks (using tools like Jira)
- Assist in interviewing and onboarding new tech volunteers
- Commit to 6 hours per week for at least 6 months
Skills
- Some technical, programming, or scripting experience (e.g., APIs, automation, Google Apps Script/Javascript)
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly
- Some familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, Salesforce or willingness to learn
- Strong leadership/team building skills
- Resourceful, can-do attitude
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
