SAP Hana Database Administrator
Position Summary Resolve Tech Solutions (RTS) is seeking a skilled SAP HANA Database Administrator (HANA DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize SAP HANA database environments supporting mission-critical SAP applications. This role is responsible for database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, security, and lifecycle management of SAP HANA databases. The ideal candidate has experience administering SAP HANA databases in enterprise environments, working closely with SAP Basis, infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance across SAP landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
SAP HANA Database Administration
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SAP HANA database environments.
- Perform SAP HANA database provisioning, tenant database management, and lifecycle administration.
- Monitor database health, availability, storage utilization, and system performance.
- Administer SAP HANA Scale-Up and Scale-Out environments.
- Manage HANA System Replication and High Availability configurations.
- Support SAP S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, and other SAP workloads running on SAP HANA.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Analyze expensive SQL statements and optimize database performance.
- Perform memory management and workload optimization.
- Optimize table partitioning, compression, and storage utilization.
- Monitor CPU, memory, disk, and network performance.
- Recommend improvements for database scalability and efficiency.
Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
- Execute database backups and validate recovery procedures.
- Support disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Perform database restores during planned or emergency recovery events.
- Ensure compliance with Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
Security & Compliance
- Implement SAP HANA security best practices.
- Manage database users, roles, privileges, and authentication.
- Support encryption for data at rest and in transit.
- Perform database auditing and security reviews.
- Assist with compliance requirements and vulnerability remediation.
System Maintenance
- Apply SAP HANA revisions, patches, and upgrades.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with SAP Basis and infrastructure teams.
- Perform database housekeeping and health checks.
- Monitor system logs and proactively resolve issues.
- Manage storage expansion and database growth.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve SAP HANA database issues.
- Support production incidents and participate in on-call rotations as required.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring database issues.
- Collaborate with SAP Basis, application, infrastructure, and cloud teams to resolve complex technical problems.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain database administration documentation.
- Create operational runbooks and standard operating procedures.
- Recommend automation opportunities using scripting and monitoring tools.
- Participate in infrastructure modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 4–7 years of database administration experience.
- 3+ years administering SAP HANA databases.
- Experience supporting production SAP environments.
- Experience with at least one SAP HANA implementation or migration project.
Technical Skills
- Strong administration experience with SAP HANA Database.
- Experience supporting:
- SAP S/4HANA
- SAP BW/4HANA
- SAP Business Suite on HANA
- SAP HANA Studio and SAP HANA Cockpit administration.
- HANA backup and recovery management.
- HANA System Replication (HSR).
- High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR).
- Database performance tuning and workload analysis.
- SQL troubleshooting and query optimization.
- Linux administration (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server).
- Familiarity with SAP Basis concepts and transport management.
- Experience with storage, virtualization, and networking technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA.
- Experience with SAP Basis administration.
- Experience with SAP Landscape Management (LaMa).
- Exposure to SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).
- Experience with hyperscalers such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SAP Solution Manager, Focused Run, or third-party enterprise monitoring solutions.
