[Remote] Database Engineer - Remote
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Xcellent Technology Solutions (XTS) is seeking a Database Engineer to design, support, and optimize data systems for the U.S. Geological Survey. The role involves managing PostgreSQL databases, optimizing SQL workflows, and supporting automation to enhance data processing and system performance.
Responsibilities
- Help design, support, and optimize the data systems that power critical environmental research for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
- Ensuring that large volumes of environmental data are efficiently stored, managed, and delivered across modern cloud and hybrid environments
- Develop scalable solutions that support data orchestration, automation, and operational reliability
- Manage PostgreSQL databases
- Optimize SQL based workflows
- Support Python driven automation and CI/CD processes that keep data systems running smoothly
- Ensure data integrity
- Improve system performance
- Support the continuous flow of mission critical information across research and operational platforms
- Contribute to the automation, scalability, and modernization of enterprise data environments
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology
- Or at least 4 years of relevant experience accompanied by active IT certifications
- Or at least 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and high-performance data processing
- Proficient in Python for automating data workflows and improving data management efficiency
- Experience with CI/CD practices, including automating database provisioning and using GitLab or GitHub for version control and deployment workflows
- Comfortable using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud-based applications and databases
- AWS and ArcGIS certifications demonstrating expertise in cloud and geospatial technologies
